Creative, Country, and Straight from the Heart

When I’m not cooking, blogging, or chasing kids around the house, you can usually find me working on one of my other favorite hobbies—making leather patch hats. Today, I’ve been busy getting some finished up for our local farmers market, and I wanted to share a little behind-the-scenes of what that looks like for me.
Let me tell you, in our house, we are totally country. From raising animals, to hunting, to camping—this is just the life we live and love. So naturally, when I started making hats, they all came out with a country theme. I guess that’s just what’s always on my mind!
This week, I made an elk leather patch hat, which I’m sharing here on the blog. Elk has always been one of our favorite animals—whether it’s out in the woods or on our dinner table (y’all know how much I love cooking elk backstrap!). So it just felt right to design something around it.
But I’ll be honest—when I first got into hat-making, it wasn’t all easy. Designing and cutting the leather patch was the fun part. But sewing it onto the hat? That was a whole different story. I had never sewn a thing in my life, and let’s just say… more than a few hats ended up in the trash before I got it right.
I kept at it, though, and little by little, I figured it out. Now it’s something I look forward to—it’s hands-on, creative, and every hat tells a little story about the life we live out here.

Whether it’s food, family, or handmade goods, I just love being able to share a little slice of our country life with y’all. If you’re ever at the farmers market, come say hi and check out some of my hats—I’d love to see you!
